Upcoming public moth-ing event at Hendre, nr Pont Llogel. Saturday 10th October 2026.

Hello all,

This is a reminder for our last public evening moth event for 2026, to be held on Saturday 10th October.

This will be our second visit to Hendre (first visit August 2024). At 220m altitude, on the far eastern edge of the Dyfnant Forest, the site is largely a mix of mature Conifer, Sallow and Oak with good wildflower populations along the rides and access tracks.

"Hendre" event location. PMG

60 moth species were recorded from the previous session despite a cold night. The target species for this event is Autumn Green Carpet. This year has been been very good for migrant species so we may get some surprises!

The location is off the B4395, turning down a lane*** in between two houses (SJ029148) approximately 1 1/2km south of Pont Llogel.  Around 1km along this lane on the right is a stone surfaced track with "Hendre" parking sign at the entrance. Follow this track to its end.

*** THIS LANE IS CURRENTLY SIGNED AS "CLOSED". THE CLOSURE IS BEYOND THE TURNING FOR THE PARKING. A SIGNED DIVERSION IS IN PLACE FOR TRAFFIC COMING FROM THE LLANWDDYN DIRECTION***

The event location is at SJ02951516. w3w// milkman.plod.inhales

Traps will be switched on around 7.15pm. Most traps will be accessible along the track side.

There is a shelter should the weather prove challenging. Please wear appropriate footwear and warm clothing for an autumn event. A head or hand torch are essential. There are no facilities so self-sufficiency is recommended. Insect repellant is advised. Please bring a seat if you require use of one.

If the session is cancelled, it will be notified via a post on the MMG website blog and facebook page so please refer to these before setting out.

For what it is worth, the long-range forecast currently looks changeable so please do check this website or facebook page beforehand.

Hopefully see some of you there.

Many thanks,

Phil.

Rare moth recorded for first time in north Wales reported in Nation.Cymru 1/10/2026.

This is a news article reporting on the discovery of a micro moth Crambus Silvella (Bog Grass Moth) at Cors Geirch National Nature Reserve on the Llŷn peninsula.

For your interest, according to Aderyn there are only 12 other records of this moth in Wales, all of which are within a single square kilometre of the Dyfi estuary at Cors Fochno (Borth Bog) and the Dyfi National Nature Reserve.
